Working in partnership with Arcadis, for the City of Raleigh, North Carolina, IBI Group provided architectural, structural, mechanical, and construction administration services for the development of the Dempsey E. Benton Water Treatment Plant – a flagship, $95 million project that effectively modernized the city’s water processing strategy.

The plant comprises a number of interrelated buildings including a raw water pumping station, a treatment building (which also houses administration, laboratory, and training functions), as well as a finished water pump station, generator building, and gatehouse. The site naturally embraces contemporary design elements through the use of cast stone, curved standing seam roofing, translucent wall panels, and aluminum window walls.

The administration building achieved LEED Silver certification thanks to a number of smart, integrated, sustainable design features including the extensive use of natural lighting.
